Takeo / Cambodia

Takeo (also: Ta Kaeo) is a capital town as well as a province in southeast Cambodia. Takeo town, a small place, is not extending 50.000 inhabitants. When visiting Takeo town one will see that there is not much to do except a town stroll. It’s a small place without any significant attractions. Though, it can be a pretty nice place to spend a time just because it represents Cambodian town life without much tourism, it’s relatively quiet for there is not too much traffic and the climate is fine in the rainy season, because there is almost always a refreshing breeze coming from the neighbouring lake.

Phnom Chisor / Cambodia

The Angkorian sanctuary of Phnom Chisor is a temple compound of the early classical time. Typical for these sanctuaries, it’s built on top of a mountain. Access is from a procession road from the east, leading from Tonle Om, a barray or huge water pond, via two gatehouses and a steep stairway up to the top of Chisor Mountain.

Flaringly, the sanctuary is crammed with buildings, what is in stark contrast to other Khmer temple compounds. However, it’s worth to pay a visit here, for there are some unique reliefs to see, a stone tablet with a sanscrit inscription and a main sanctuary filled with a lot of different objects of worship.

Pangandaran / Java

Pangandaran is a town at the south coast of Java. It’s the most popular tourist destination for the Javanese, so it’s pretty touristic and in times of holidays very crowded. Nevertheless it’s still a destination worth to spend a few days here. Particularly Pananjung Pangandaran Nature Reserve, a nature park situated on a peninsula behind the town is worth to be visited. It’s one of the last few patches of tropical rainforest who are left on the heavily overpopulated island of Java.

The mountain scenery of the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru Massive is among Java’s most picturesque landscapes, and that means much, because Java is rich in fantastic landscapes. What is now the ‘sea of sand’ around Gunung Bromo was a long time ago in earth history the caldera of the Tengger supervolcano. After it’s collapse some new, smaller volcanoes appeared and shaped the landscape as it looks now. One of them is famous Mount (Gunung) Bromo.

Yogyakarta / Java

Yogyakarta is the second most visited tourist destination in Indonesia, after Bali. It’s widely seen as Java’s cultural capital. Indeed, Yogyakarta has a long history, particularly when one includes the medieval civilizations of Borobodur and Prambanan and the empire of Mataram. Generally spoken, Yogyakarta is nicer than the verymost other Javanese cities and towns because it still has what of it’s past preserved, mostly from the Dutch times and from the Javanese court of the local sultan, namely the kraton (sultan’s palace). More than the crowded consumer paradies of Yogyakarta itself are the surroundings worth to spend some time – that is above all Prambanan, Parangtritis, Imogiri and Kaliurang, a mountain village close to the famous Javanese volcano Mount Merapi.

Climbing Mount Merbabu / Java

When climbing Mount (Gunung) Merbabu prepare for a day trip. Have always an open eye for the weather – it the weather changes and it get’s cloudy, you might get lost in the thick fog. The way up lasts about four hours, maybe much more, depends on your speed and the breaks you have. Reaching the peak one is rewarded with majestic views over these parts of central Java, including a stunning view on neighbouring Mount Merapi.

Centipedes / Millipedes

Centipedes and millipedes get sometimes mixed up with each other. They are of about the same size and shape and live in similar habitates. Nevertheless, there is a big difference between the two species. Centipedes are carnivorous and feed from other animals, mostly insects. They have a strong pair of venomous claws and can cause severe pain when biting humans. Besides, they are pretty aggressive. Millipedes, on the contrary, are completely harmless vegetarians.
