Climbing Mount Merapi is possible, with or without guide. Since it’s not easy to get a good guide here, going by oneself is an option. One has to be somewhat careful then, though, and to consider some things before starting. The reward of the climb is the view deep down into the crater of one of the most active and dangerous volcanos on earth.
